A Day Filled with Wallflowers

I love how inspiration works. You never know what will spark a brilliant idea. Well in this case the work was already done. Someone was already subject of having an all sparking idea, and here I tried to recreate the magic.

Last summer I came across a blog with an inspiring motivational picture. A picture of a room filled with columns of brightly colored flowers. Now of course I had to attempt to capture this beauty and apply it to my own life. Here is the picture I found about a year ago, on a blog I randomly came across:

Now isn't that something? What I really like about the set up is that they weren't afraid to show the tape that is holding the flowers to the wall. It gives it a humanistic sense of imperfection which I love. The contrast between the white walls and brightly colored flowers really tops it off. Right, time to stop staring and start mimicking.

I hopped over to my local Michael's craft store and  bought about 20 bundles of fake spring flowers and a roll of blue duck tape. I spent about 25$ on fake flowers, which Which is not a purchase I commonly make.
Next, I cut thin strips of duck tape, making sure there was a variety of thicknesses, so that it didn't look too perfect or symmetrical. Making                                                                                        .                                                         it perfectly imperfect.
I found a good place on my wall and started the wall-flowering process. After I was done, I took the remaining flowers inside my blank vintage frames, as well as along the perimeter of my bay window. I love how it turned out.  Something so simple with amazing results.

I know it isn't spring yet, but it sure does feel like it with all these flowers and the unusual February sun. I also added a picture of the "record store" part of my room. Records and record players always take a room from mundane to insane.

I hope you enjoyed this simple little project. It's the smaller things in life that make me happy. Try it out. You'll love it.

DIY Free People Rainbow Fishtail Braid Trial

As you all may know, I love to create stuff with my hands. I like to make things that enhance a female's natural beauty. Things that draw attention to a girl's beautiful features, so that one can not look away. That being said, I also like to enhance my own beauty with new and creative techniques.

About a year ago, Free People included an awesome Rainbow fishtail braid in their summer catalogue. At first, I bought some single clip, colored extensions and fishtailed my own detachable braid ( Included with a glow-in-the-dark extension). It was pretty awesome. Last week I finally decided to go all the way! And now I am wondering why it took me this long!
Here is an example of Free People's rainbow fishtail braid (keep in mind this was created by professionals):

Now of course Free people used the coolest colors known to woman, so it took some time finding some vibrant colors that were not too common. Of course I had to purchase my own extensions, sew on the clips and dye the hair myself in order to look truly and uniquely Free People. I wasn't bothered by this because, well because I sure do love my art projects. Plus I knew this one was going to be worth the effort.

    Limey Lizard
Party Time Pink
Tripped out Turquoise
I ran down to Sally's Beauty Salon and searched the shelves for a color that made my eyes smile. Voila! I found it! Beyond the Zone semi-permanent hair dye! I purchased three bottles, some honey blonde hair extensions, and a few extension hair clips to sew onto the hair tracks.
Then the dying process began. I didn't want the colors to turn out too bright, so I slathered the colors separately on the blonde tracks I cut and let them sit for about 5 minutes. When it was time to rinse them out they were perfect. They had these streaks of bright color and streaks of faded color. This created an array of colors which I was totally excited about.

Then came the sewing. I sewed the clips onto the extensions and after about 20 minutes of impatiently sewing, it was time to braid! Well now, let me warn you that I am not the best at braiding. I feel like an 80 year old woman with arthritis when I attempt to braid. I usually force my best friend Kelsey to do my braiding (her and her magic fingers) but she was not around and I was getting super anxious.

I gave it a shot and let me stress to you, doing a fishtail french braid on yourself is not as easy as it seems. In fact it was quite difficult. I was trying to braid behind my head without looking, yet trying to grab pieces of color so they wouldn't get lost inside the braid. After three times of re-doing my braid I was finally satisfied (that or I was extremely exhausted of holding my arms over my head for the last hour). And BOY OH BOY was I PLEASED. I wore this style braid for three days straight, re-doing it everyday, and with time I got quicker and more skilled.

If you focus on the colors you can see: Light pink, white, aqua green, pink, blonde, purple, and florescent fuchsia. Thank you Free People for this awesome hair style inspiration.

WARNING!!!*** Once your friends find out you can do this, expect a lot of begging and pleading from them, asking if you can preform this hairstyle on their lovely set of locks. ***!!!
